HISTORY OF WILLOW CREEK:  Willow Creek Mining District was included in the Imlay District  from 1890's until 1910 and the only published production was from the U.S. Government and it amounted to approximately 3,000 ounces coming from both districts.  It reported that the bulk of the gold came from Willow Creek.

The next period of activity in the Canyon came in the early 1920's. when the Wadley mine was discovered.  The only published report came from the Mining Journal Magazine which stated that the ore being extracted from the hardrock mine averaged 1/2 troy oz. Per lb. of ore.     In the 1924 May edition of the Humbolt Register ( now the Lovelock Review Miner) it showed a photograph of two men holding up a piece of gold about 1" thick and 18" long by 8" wide.

In the 1930's a company called Nevada Rock and Sand operated a section of the canyon  about 1/2 mile upstream from the present open pit and reported to the Lovelock recorder over 6,000 oz.

The next operator was a company called Blanco Oil.     In 1964 the following article was published in the Engineering and Mining Journal:

"Blanco Oil Co., of San Antonio, Texas made an initial run of its plant in the Willow Creek district of Pereshing County, and produced 8 1/2 lbs. of gold during a 15 hour operation.   Hugh Fisher, contractor, and Allen Tucker, geologist, with headquarters in Winnemucca, are running the placer property."    It was reported by Hugh Fisher that he believed a total of 20,000 ounces were recovered from the area.

Wallace Calder continued to operate the same section of the canyon that Blanco Oil was in and according to his son, James Calder of Winnemucca, he produced an additional 4,000 ounces.   Both of these operators reported 5 to 36 ounce nuggets.

In the 70's two groups became active in the canyon. Each producing approximately 1,000 oz.

In the 1990's Bob Hormouth was on the upper section of the channel and Paul Vaden on the lower.  Reporting 300 to 500 oz.
